Here’s something to melt your death-metal-loving heart: an archival recording of late Death mastermind Chuck Schuldiner covering Madonna’s “Frozen” single has unexpectedly popped up online.
Schuldiner’s instrumental take on Madonna’s first Ray of Light single has appeared through Death’s official Instagram page, via a video post from Schuldiner’s nephew, Chris Steele. The vid finds him putting a burnt CD labeled “Frozen” into a car stereo, and from there we hear gorgeously glacial guitar vibrato harmonies soaring through the speakers.
“Found this today going through some things,” Steele wrote, explaining, “Chuck recorded this in the early stages of his battle with cancer, I remember it well. Chuck sitting in his bedroom with his stealth and a drum machine. I’m not sure how many people outside of the family and a few friends have heard this but it’s all yours.”
