2025 is gearing up to be a big year for Dax Riggs. Perhaps best known as the frontman of Louisiana sludge-metal cult heroes Acid Bath, Riggswill be releasing his first solo album in 15 years, 7 Songs for Spiders. Even better, Acid Bath will be reuniting to play their first shows since 1997, at the Sonic Temple, Welcome to Rockville, Inkcarceration and Louder Than Life festivals.
Ahead of all this, Riggs has offered up the final single off 7 Songs for Spiders, the elegiac dirge “sunshine felt the darkness smile.”
“Like a roller-coaster ride in the dark. A meditation on the shadow of the oak tree,” he commented obliquely of the song. “Where the comedy and tragedy masks catch our gaze and ask: Who are you looking at?”
The rest of 7 Songs for Spiders — which includes the previously released singles “deceiver” and “even the stars fall” — is said to be inspired by “world music, gospel and proto-metal sounds” and the Cajun landscape in which these songs were written, while its themes include “human beings collapsing in upon themselves, songs about sympathy for the villain, songs about God and what your gods tell you about yourself.”
7 Songs for Spiders is due out January 24th. The album follows Riggs’ 2010 solo album, Say Goodnight to the World.
