Single Print Index — the new metalcore project from Code Orange members Jami Morgan and Dominic Landolina — have issued even more of their self-described “Pittsburgh Murder Music.” After debuting the project in June with their “Recover the Mindset” single, they’ve issued a follow-up banger dubbed “Neon Red.”
The latest track begins with a gargantuan groove propelled by grotesque pinch-squeals, dissonant chord descensions and the sound of Morgan popping off with violent intent (“Neon red spills out your fucking head / Pull out the Smith and Wess / Bang bang you’re dead”).
It’s a noise-contorting, fully crushing display that only gets nastier the further it gets along — up until the recording cuts itself off abruptly. You can sample what you can up above.
Single Print Index joins vocalist Morgan and guitarist Landolina with members of Pittsburgh unit Pain Clinic. The song was also mixed and mastered by Shade Balderose, Morgan’s longtime co-conspirator in Code Orange and offshoot electronic faction NOWHERE2RUN.
Details on a larger Single Print Index release have not been proffered, though a tag on their the Instagram post for “Neon Red” suggests the group are working with New York record label Streets of Hate.
In related news, NOWHERE2RUN issued their collaborative “Drone Operator” track with Jay Weinberg earlier in the year, which teases the latter’s forthcoming solo LP. The song is also available on an exclusive 12-inch, along with Weinberg’s “Sandstone” track with Deafheaven’s George Clarke, in Revolver’s shop.
