Bring Me the Horizon are bringing it back to their Count Your Blessings era, but with a twist. As previously reported, the group are just about to deliver a fully re-recorded version of that early deathcore classic to celebrate its 20th anniversary, but they’ve also just delivered a new heavy-hitting song called “Dehumanized” that pays homage to their sound circa 2006.
The track had been previewed earlier this month on socials through ominous teaser vids of people being debased in some kind of industrial torture chamber. At one point, one person with a set of VR goggles strapped to their skull reports: “Whatever’s about to happen here is not going to be PG.”
The song is described in a press release as “carrying the unrelenting aggression and chaos of the band’s earliest material while reflecting the scope, ambition and sonic precision that have defined Bring Me the Horizon’s evolution.” You can determine this for yourself by giving the song and its Saw-and-Hostel-conjuring torture vid — full of guts-slicing visuals and aural grotesquerie — a peep up above.
The impending Count Your Blessings | Repented features fully re-recorded versions of tracks like de facto title cut “Pray for Plagues” (which features multiple variations of the line “count your blessings”), “Black & Blue” and “Slow Dance,” along with “Dehumanized,” which closes the album.
The redux also features songs that restore BMTH’s “early creative history” — in particular “Liquor & Love Lost” is preserved on the new LP under its original working title, “Dragon Slaying”.
While it features a brand-new track and updated recordings, vocalist Oli Sykes noted of the Repented project: “We can’t have this record sounding like what bands sound like today. It needs to be the best version of what it sounded like in 2006.”
