It’s been five years since Breaking Benjamin delivered any new music, but that all changed today (October 16th). The veteran hard rock force have announced they’ve entered the next phase of career by signing with BMG, and they’re celebrating the move by issuing a new anthem titled “Awaken.”
The track is loaded with hefty modern rock hooks, running between percussively-drilled guitar work, a mix of screams and croons from the band’s Benjamin Burnley, and a hopeful singalong chorus. “Awaken” follows the band’s 2019 single “Far Away,” which had been included on the following year’s Aurora compilation, and the group are apparently pumped to have entered a new era of songwriting.
“Working on this song has been something new and exciting for all of us I believe” guitarist Jasen Rauch explained in a statement “We’ve been able to explore more of who we are traditionally, while at the same time push boundaries and try things we haven’t done in the past. Musically we’ve tried hard to stay true to what Breaking Benjamin is, but offer a new take as well.”
Thus far it’s unclear if “Awaken” is part of an upcoming album, or if it’s a standalone single. The band’s most recent full-length was 2018’s Ember.
As previously reported, Breaking Benjamin are currently out on the road for a fall tour with Staind, Daughtry and Lakeview. While the bulk of the tour has already taken place, there are still a handful of dates to go. You’ll find the remaining show details down below.
