After the dissolution of his band Altar of Plagues, James Kelly set his sights on WIFE as his primary project, straying away from the expansive and highly influential work he did in lieu of a new persona within the electronic realm. With his new project Bliss Signal, Kelly teams with U.K. DJ/producer Jack Adams (Mumdance) to revisit his roots, leaning on elements of black metal with electronic influences to create a whole new animal of present and past, but looking a whole lot like the future.
The duo’s latest track is “Tranq,” which uses a post-rock–inflected guitar riff as its backbone. It’s haunting without going into creep-show cliché, and ultimately beautiful. Bliss Signal’s debut LP is due via Profound Lore and True Panther on September 28th; you can pre-order your copy here.
