While Better Lovers have presented us with a variety of heavy sounds from their highly anticipated, Highly Irresponsible full-length debut thus far, the band are ready to dial into some “Future Myopia.” Thankfully, despite that narrow-focus title, it’s another wide-scope crusher from the post-hardcore supergroup.
The new track was delivered in a digital noise-spiked music video full of psychedelic pinwheels,, volcanic disasters and various tree frogs. Sonically, Better Lovers are complementing that with noise-chords and hard beats galore, while vocalist Greg Puciato puts on a clinic through a series of testy screams about the unpredictability of life (“careful with the path you’re choosing”). The highlight, however, may be the grizzly, low-end breakdown from Stephen Micciche.
“The bass-centric part in the back half of the song is one of my favorite moments on the whole record. Shout out to big Mitch,” Puciato said in a statement, adding of the rest of the single, “There were a lotta fun pitches to hit/alley-oops to catch for me in this one. Chorus took me a minute so that was a nice puzzle to figure out too. It’s been a joy writing with these guys and having so much different stuff thrown at me.”
“Future Myopia” follows recent singles “A White Horse Covered in Blood” and “The Flowering,” and likewise appears on the band’s forthcoming Highly Irresponsible, which is out October 25th via SharpTone Records.
