We’re just a few days off from the release of post-hardcore supergroup – and recent Revolver cover stars — Better Lovers’ full-length debut, Highly Irresponsible. And while we’ve already been treated to a handful of singles in the lead-up to the record, the band aren’t pumping the brakes on pre-release promo this week, either. That’s why they’ve dropped the extra raucous video for the record’s closing freakout, “Love as an Act of Rebellion.”
The song itself is a manic, noise-chorded stab of metalcore riffery, high-octane drum chaos and supremely feral screaming from frontman Greg Puciato. As for the visuals, it finds all of Better Lovers banging into the track, but it likewise finds the troupe taking in some seriously reckless performances from a host of extreme artists. This includes a self-immolating opera singer, a lion tamer with a glass-smashing fetish, and a cheesy-poof-obsessed strongman testing his intestinal fortitude…and promptly losing.
“Here’s one more appetizer before the Highly Irresponsible main course is served this Friday,” guitarist Jordan Buckley said in a statement. “Some crispy green beans before your Buddha’s Feast. A blooming onion before your slow-roasted prime rib.”
“This song has become one of my personal top three or four on the record,” Puciato added, “It runs the gamut emotionally, starting with this immediate frenetic and urgent desperation, and then ending in this place of uneasy acceptance; acceptance with a question mark. Extremely satisfying emotionally and stylistically to write vocals to this one. To stick with Jordan’s food analogies, to me this is a full course meal in one song. If I had to show people one song off of the record and one song only, I think this would be the one.”

The group also take off on tour the following week with Gouge Away, Full of Hell, Spy, Cloakroom and more. Better Lovers kick off their North American fall headline tour at November 3rd at Asheville, North Carolina’s Orange Peel venue, and close out the trek at Lakewood, Ohio’s Roxy auditorium on December 8th.
