Halestorm vocalist-guitarist Lzzy Hale has revealed that she once dumped someone for falling asleep during their date at a TOOL show.
The musician revealed this past romantic schism in a recent interview with Guitar Player, wherein the Halestorm founder weighed in on the 10 records that changed her life. These include TOOL’s 2001 classic Lateralus, which she fondly recalled her and her brother (and future Halestorm drummer) Arejay listening to on repeat after she bought him a copy for his birthday.
Hale then added an anecdote about a date at a TOOL show that didn’t go exactly as planned.
“I had a shitty waitress job, and I got us tickets to see TOOL at Hershey Park,” Hale told Guitar Player. “I was so stoked. Then Arejay did something to piss off our parents, so they wouldn’t allow him to go.
“I thought, ‘OK, this could be an opportunity to ask somebody out on a date,’ which I did. I asked this guy Nate, and he said yes. I was like, ‘Sweet!’ We didn’t have great seats, but it didn’t matter — the show was amazing. I was singing every word.
“Halfway through, I looked at my date and saw that he had fallen asleep — total deal-breaker for me.”
You can’t begrudge Hale for her decision to call things off.
In other news, Hale and the rest of Halestorm are rounding the corner with completing their upcoming sixth full-length (which happens to be one of Revolver’s 60 most anticipated releases of 2025). In a recent interview with Metal Hammer, Hale again confirmed that the band are “almost done” with an at-times Motörhead-inspired follow-up to 2022’s Back From the Dead.
The record is being produced by Dave Cobb, a Grammy-nominated producer who has primarily worked in the country-music genre but is, per Hale, “a closet metalhead.”
