The ghoulish lore behind occult-rock favorites Ghost will be explored via upcoming comic books based on the character of Sister Imperator. A mythos-building mini-series named after the shadowy figure is set to be published by Dark Horse Comics in 2025.
A press release confirms that a four-part series is being co-penned by Ghost mastermind Tobias Forge and comics writer Corinna Bechko (Avatar: Adapt or Die). They’ve teamed up with artist Puste (The Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries), colorist Thiago Rocha (Kill All Immortals) and Comicraft’s Jimmy Betancourt (Ghostbusters: Back in Town) to “tell the hidden history of the woman who became the force behind Ghost.”
While Sister Imperator has been a part of the broader Ghost story for years, most recently within the band’s big-screen RITE HERE RITE NOW production, the comic series will further explore her backstory. Set in smalltown New England, the series will detail the “winding path of violence and vindication” that eventually led the Sister towards becoming a representative of the Clergy, and a “behind-the-scenes overseer of Ghost’s dark machinations.
The first issue arrives in March 5th, with cover art from Mikael Eriksson.
“As a fan of Ghost, working with Tobias to bring his vision of Sister Imperator’s story to life was a dream come true,” Bechko said in a statement, adding of the comic’s central figure, “Her history is rich, tragic and brutal in ways that transcend what people might think they know about her character… I’ve had the honor of writing a lot of amazing women, from Vampirella to Wonder Woman, but I’ve never written a character more kickass than Sister Imperator.”
“Sister Imperator herself is such a fascinating and terrifying character, and I know fans are going to love her,” Puste added. “With the support of an amazing team, a killer script, and the backing of Dark Horse and Ghost, this has truly been a dream project. I can’t wait for fans of the band and comics alike to dive into this dark, atmospheric and thrilling story!”
