Following last week’s death-growl-heavy viral performance at the Miss Mundo Chile semi-finals, Decessus vocalist Ignacia Fernández was crowned the victor in last night’s (November 9th) finals.
As previously reported, Fernández garnered worldwide attention after performing an original song by her band during last week’s semi-finals broadcast — with the frontwoman bringing massive gutturals to the pageant stage, while flanked by Decessus guitarist Carlos Palma.
Though last night didn’t include a commanding repeat performance, Fernández beat out 19 other contestants during the finals, and was officially crowned Miss World Chile by the end of the night. From here, the vocalist, model and animal rights advocate will now be preparing for next year’s Miss World competition.
“Couldn’t be more [happy] and grateful,” she wrote over socials. “I take on this beautiful challenge with all the energy and heart put into representing my country in the best way. I promise to give it my all, with passion, labor and purpose.
“Thank you for the worldwide recognition of my singing, a little piece of my soul that inspires me to keep growing and dreaming big. Let’s go all the way Chile…. for that crown!”

“Metal has been a fundamental part of who I am as a person and in my life: a refuge, a source of strength and purpose,” Fernández had previously written in an Instagram post, then adding of bringing death-metal vocals to the Chilean national broadcast, “Being able to express it on stage at Chilevision and Miss Mundo Chile was an opportunity I deeply value.”
Fernández founded Decessus in 2020. The band’s most recent single is the September-issued “Dark Flames.”
