We’ve known Celldweller was a gamer for a while — the industrial-rock veteran hit a Soul Reaver-themed single with Trivium’s Matt Heafy in 2024. This fall, he’s leaning into classic side-scrolling action in the new video for his latest vocal single, “Fakebreaker.”
The song is the first vocal track Celldweller’s Klayton has released in years, and the first he’s produced in his newly-built studio in Detroit, Michigan. The song teams him up with dark bass artist SWARM and UK electronic-metal vocalist-producer REEBZ, and together they draft up cinematic synth squelches, brazenly metallic riffage and deep, undulated acid bass. Klayton calls the song a “monster,” and one he wanted to tame with a couple of friends.
“During the process I hit up my friend REEBZ to see if she wanted to throw vocals over the FreqGen demo, and when I got them back knew instantly it needed to become a full blown Celldweller track,” he said.
“Being a SWARM fan, he instantly came to mind when thinking about how to make this track even bigger and better. The combination of the three of us was the perfect storm to bring this track to God Mode level.”
The song teases Celldweller’s forthcoming, gaming-themed God Mode EP through FiXT Music. Fittingly enough, the music video — which you’ll find up above — thrusts Celldweller into a “dark, ominous cyberpunk world” inspired by classic side-scrollers.
SWARM added: “I love Celldweller, and I love video games. When I was asked to work on a song that had both in common, it was the quickest ‘yes’ that has ever left my lips.”
As for REEBZ, she commented, “Both Celldweller and SWARM have always been great inspirations to me musically, and I was so excited to collaborate with them on our new song Fakebreaker! It was so much fun getting to record a range of both heavy and melodic vocals to add to the awesome high-energy vibe of the track. I was absolutely stoked with how it all turned out!”
