Even if the sun burns out real soon, at least we’ve got a sick new collab between Bring Me the Horizon frontman Oli Sykes and Spiritbox vocalist Courtney LaPlante to keep us company in the darkness. Together, the two metal heavyweights produced “If the Sun Burns Out Tonight,” an upcoming song tied to multi-player tactical shooter Valorant that doubles as this year’s Champions e-game tournament anthem.
The song was previewed earlier today (August 12th) in a trailer that finds producer Grabbitz — who has delivered Valorant tracks in the past — sending texts to LaPlante and Sykes about the collab (“Working on something new for Valorant…Want to hop on?”). Made between the U.S., Canada and the U.K., we then see Sykes and LaPlante laying down screams and melodic chorus hooks to a throbbing yet melodic industrial-metal arrangement. The clip also delivers shooter-styled gameplay visuals of Riot Games’ Valorant.
It’s as-yet unclear when the full song hits streamers, but it’s expected to arrive sometime this fall. In the meantime, you can peep the preview up above.
“The best collaborations happen when everyone brings a different perspective to the room – and that’s what makes this record so exciting to me,” Grabbitz said in a statement. “Oli, Courtney and I came together from different corners of the globe, and landed on a track that sits effortlessly between my electronic world and the heavy landscapes of Bring Me The Horizon and Spiritbox. The 3 of us just clicked – and the result is what I believe to be the best Valorant anthem to date.”
“I’ve always been drawn to projects that blur the lines between storytelling and music,” Sykes added, “so…becoming part of the Valorant World felt like a really natural fit.”
“Oli has given me the opportunity to perform live with BMTH many times over the years, and we’re finally debuting something we worked on together,” LaPlante continues. “Grabbitz produced such a great atmosphere and a song tailored to all three of our voices, and Oli went in right away and made it a true collaboration.”
The Valorant Champions tournament is ongoing, and the finals take place in Shanghai, China, from September 24th to October 18th. The top 16 teams from around the world competing for the crown. More info on the e-sports tournament can be found here.
