2019 has been one of the biggest years in heavy music in recent memory, with heavyweights such as Tool, Slipknot and Rammstein dropping long-awaited new albums, while trailblazing up-and-comers pushed boundaries in their own right. For her part, Lzzy Hale spent much of the year touring hard in support of Halestorm’s latest album Vicious. Since the vocalist-guitarist was on the road with time to kill, movies have a big part of her 2019. Here she shares some of her favorites from this year.

This crazy thriller is uneasy and unpredictable.
Pet Semetary
A modern remake of the classic. It’s well-done and executed in a timeless way.
It Chapter 2
I loved the original and Chapter 2 did not disappoint. The comradery of the characters later in life was enjoyable and extremely funny at times. And the classic “jump out of your seat” moments are worth a watch!

A funny, uneasy, fashion industry–based thriller! Jake Gyllenhaal gives a great performance, as well!
Marriage Story
What a beautiful, honest story about a relationship ending. The acting is Oscar-worthy and the story will make you think about breakups in a whole new way.
Good Boys
This is the funniest movie I’ve seen in a long time. The boys here remind me of a modern-day Goonies as they make their transition from children to tweens. Whether you are a boy, a parent to a boy or — like me — grew up with a brother and boy buddies, you will love this movie.
The Silence
A unique thriller where humanity has to learn to be silent les be eaten by blind creatures who use their sense of hearing to hunt their prey.
Animals
A beautiful coming-of-age story about two friends in their early Thirties: sex, drugs, parties, love and friendship.
Ready or Not
A humorous and amazingly unique thriller where a bride is hunted by her new in-laws due to a deep-seeded family tradition and superstitions.
Rocketman
The beautiful thing about this movie about Elton and Bernie is that you are taken on a journey through their life together, told in story by Bernie’s lyrics. I cried twice. Definitely a new classic!
