Baroness are spinning their color wheel backwards this spring.
Following a recent pair of pre-Christmas shows in Philadelphia, PA that found the beloved metal band banging through the entirety of both 2007 debut full-length Red Album and its 2009 follow-up, Blue Record, Baroness have now announced plans to hit the road for a tour that similarly sees them playing the albums back-to-back.
The news of Baroness’ “Red and Blue Tour” was officially confirmed by the band this morning (February 5th). The 18-show trek hits pockets of the East Coast and Mid-West regions, beginning with a May 7th appearance at Baltimore, Maryland’s Metro Gallery.
While founding vocalist-guitarist John Dyer Baizley noted in a statement that he’s not “overly interested in pure nostalgia,” he confessed that reconnecting with forgotten favorites from their early era back in December was a lot of fun.
“It was a great experience, unearthing the deeper cuts from those records that had faded from our setlist and it offered a rare opportunity to play some of those songs for the first time ever outside the studio,” he said, adding, “While I’ve personally never been overly interested in the pure nostalgia of past records, we’ve always found it illuminating to bridge the gap between present and past Baroness by learning and updating/rearranging our earliest material.”
In addition to relearning their Red-and-Blue material, Baizley noted that Baroness are also currently writing their next record. The band’s last full-length, Stone, was issued in 2023.
Tickets for the “Red and Blue Tour” go on-sale this Friday (February 7th) over on Baroness’ website. It’s also been revealed that the band will have exclusive tour-only vinyl releases featuring new artwork from Baizley on-hand at the shows, as well as Red-and-Blue themed merch.
