Here at Revolver, we’re always on the hunt for new songs to bang our heads to — indeed, it’s a big part of our jobs. With that in mind, here are the tracks released this week in metalcore, electronicore and more that have been on heavy rotation at Revolver HQ.

A Mourning Star – “An Abundance”
Angels that they are, Vancouver’s A Mourning Star just pulled their four-song Necessity Has Clipped My Wings EP down from the metalcore heavens. And it’s pretty damn triumphant.
“An Abundance” storms out the pearly gates with massive, armor-piercing melodeath harmonies — this reflecting their newly expanded, three-guitarist approach. A Mourning Star also spread their wings with a strong, seismic chorus hook, and they got Trench’s Jay Breen to hop on the cut with full-time howler Elijah Robinson, too.
Currents – “Rise & Fall”
Veteran metalcore players Current rose to the occasion this week by dropping their new surprise EP, All That Follows.
In particular, “Rise & Fall” hits hard between its heavy artillery drums, double-handed tap-tastic finale and existential cries about life’s unyielding ebb and flow. If, per the tune, they’re “living pages of our prophecy,” the story so far has been pretty damn good.
Electric Callboy – “TANZNEID”
“I can feel the beat in my legs.”
German electronicore party animals Electric Callboy want you to surrender to the rhythm of their latest EDM-beating and metallically moshing single. While it’s become their calling card to bring together those seemingly disparate elements, “TANZNEID” still surges with a compellingly unique neon-aqua glow that’s bound to fill dance floors all over.
As the band suggest, “Everybody’s getting down… ‘Til the full moon’s out” — and we’re not talking about the wacky bathroom scene from their video.
Kim Dracula – “In Threes”
“Let’s give the people what they want.”
Tasmanian vocal contortionist Kim Dracula puts their “animal instinct” on display in this new standalone single — their first original song in over two years — which has the genre-obliterating artist braising deep alt-metal croons with bestial roars and a bit of jazz-scatting weirdness.
Following a pair of gloom-rock choruses, the hard-stomping bridge finds a cheerleader type egging Kim Dracula on to give us an ultra-nasty growl (“You can do better than this/Push yourself harder”). Drac complies with an exaggeratedly rib-biting and people-pleasing ejaculation. “Great job!,” indeed.
Samael – “Black Matter Manifesto”
Eight years on from Samael’s Hegemony LP, the Swiss extremists return with a bleak battering manifesto of epic proportions.
“Black Matter Manifesto” is a black-metal-seasoned assault of volcanically erupting blasts and kicks, keyboard eeriness, and ultra-brutal screams about being plunged into a “black-on-black” void. Nevertheless, the acoustics apparently sound sick as hell “deep down in the abyss.”
Trivium – “Struck Dead”
Heavy-metal mainstays Trivium full-on bodied us with their mini-sized, yet max impactful, new three-song EP, STRUCK DEAD.
While solid across the board, the title track, in particular, presents itself as an impeccably heavy trip of deep-judding riffage, wizard-level guitar shred, micro-thrash explosions and king-sized chorus melodies.
Though vocalist-guitarist Matt Heafy says a “hungry pack of anxieties” have started gnawing at his soul, we’re confident that the sheer fortitude of “Struck Dead” will keep those demons at bay.
