Chimaira tapped into a wholly unique sound on their 2001 debut, Pass Out of Existence, finding the midpoint between the hulking riffs and screamed vocals of death metal, and the rubbery grooves and zappy electronics of nu-metal. There’s certainly a healthy dose of early Slipknot in their formula, but songs like the colossally heavy “Severed” and “Sp Lit” are as bone-crushing as any of their metalcore peer. It may not be Chimaira’s most popular album, but it’s one you need to own.
Limited triple vinyl LP pressing includes demos making their debut on a physical format as well as a previously unreleased live show from Orlando, FL in 2002.
